SAFETY

St. Benedict’s cottage is strictly no smoking.

The cottage does not accept pets.

For your safety, there are ceiling-mounted mains smoke/fire sensors in the kitchen and on the landing. In the event of a false alarm, press the Test/Hush button on the case to reduce the sensitivity of the sensor for ten minutes.

Do not cover the night storage heaters or small radiators.

Do not leave flammable or fabric items touching the night storage heaters.

There is a fire blanket in the kitchen. To use the fire blanket, simply pull the tabs.

There is also a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. This can be used on liquid or electrical fires. To use the extinguisher, simply pull the canister off the wall and remove the pin. Hold the canister upright about six feet from the fire, aim at the source of the fire and squeeze the trigger.

Only use the correct fuel for the wood fire and always protect the fire with a guard. Be sure to keep furniture and flammable items well away from the fire.

The front room fireplace is strictly decorative and must NOT be used.

Child safety - the front door opens directly onto the street and you may wish to keep this door locked, or to use the chain, to ensure a child cannot wander out onto the road. (It is also possible to walk round to the road from the back door.) There is a stair gate to protect against falls, a high chair in the downstairs bathroom recess, and a cot on the wardrobe in the back bedroom. Linen for the cot is in the ottoman in the back bedroom

Take care on the steep stairs and mind your head!
